For over 20 years Ridgeway feeds has been developing and manufacturing small animal treats for the pet industry. Supplying Wholesalers, pet shops the general public and breeders of Chinchillas and Rabbits. The history of Ridgeway feeds goes back to the late1980s when Mr Colin Garfield a former hunt jockey and animal nutritionist opened a small pet shop called Ridgeway pets in Westcliff on Sea and brought his first Chinchilla for £250.00 Mr Garfield carefully studied these adorable creatures which where once a threatened species bred only for their fur. Mr Garfield became a specialist not only breeding and selling these animals but producing high quality original treats and feeds from a small unit at the rear of his shop, favourites like Nora rolls, Gnaw a cubes, Nature blend, Alfalfa cobs, Herb e Mix, Chin chow, Munch an crunch and many more.

In 2005 Ridgeway feeds was brought by myself who moved the business from Westcliff on Sea to a short distance down the road to Southend on Sea. Because Ridgeway feeds was born in Southend on Sea so one of our main suppliers of our products is Chalkwell pets which is located along the London Road. And due to continual expansion and growth within the business it has just recently relocated to a industrial unit in Colchester Essex were our dedicated team continue to develop and manufacture new and exciting healthy treats and feeds for small animals. Also over the last six months we have been approached and sold a number of our products to a large well known company to the pet industry called Den Marketing who have a larger distribution area over the UK then ourselves.

Over the past few years more and more people have been concerned of their own lifestyle and their eating habits and this has had an effect on the way we look after our pets, as we are so concerned of our own welfare so we feel the same for our pets, ether it be a Dog, cat Rabbit Chinchilla, or even a pet mouse Same animals like the Chinchilla require a specific diet of good clean hay and special pellets NOT mixed feeds as their main diet which you can buy from certain manufactures, as the chinchilla would have an unbalanced diet and this could cause problems later on in their life, boring as it might seem we advise sticking to hay and pellets with the orcational treat once or twice a week. And plenty of wood and mineral blocks to help keep their teeth in tip top condition.

Over the past few years Ridgeway feeds has noticed this change of attitude from people towards their pets, so now we concentrate on producing products of the highest quality natural ingredients to promote a healthy and happy life style for your pet, our new natural range of small animal treats contain no artificial flavourings, colourings or preservatives just 100% pure natural ingredients and more recently added various herbs and flowers to our recipes such as Chamomile, mint, parsley, dandelion, blackberry and raspberry leafs, Marshmallow root, Plantain, Nettle leaf, Lavender, Red clover, Marigold, Rose hips and Rose buds. By adding these aromatic herbs to our treats we believe that it helps to bring out your pets natural foraging ability and because they have a excellent sense of smell helps to tantalise there taste buds, plus all our herbs have beneficial health properties to help maintain a healthy active life.
